Is this Firewire ExpressCard from Dynex good? It's the only one I can find available in-store so if it doesn't work I can be able to return it easily. I've read lots of bad reviews about this one. I'm currently using a Canon XH-A1 camera which should be able to provide its own power for the Firewire input. This one is $40, it seems high but I'm not sure if that's the usual for ExpressCards.

Is there any other stores I can buy ExpressCards for about $40 or less? I checked Radioshack online but they seem to have only a $70-80 one.

This one seems to be highly regarded. It's also $40 (well, $42), but free shipping and no tax depending on where you live. If for some reason it doesn't work for you, Amazon's return policy is no sweat, no restocking fee. Whatever you decide to buy, make sure you install the drivers for the device before you plug it into your macine.

I got the Dynex one from ebay/china. Cheapest thing out there. Definitely under 10$ so there is no problem in buying that if everything else you find is about 40$.
Go for cheapness out of return possibilities. In general, for cheap, international ebay items, you don't have to return it to get a refund. They just don't care (both ebay and the seller).
I've gotten stuff for free just by thinking it was fake, opening a case and leaving negative feedback, then not checking my email for a day after I realized it wasn't fake...
Anyway the major problem some seem to have with the dynex card is the drivers just don't install sometimes, I think it could be a windows/expresscard thing since the drivers are built in.
My problem with it is different, it has a 6 pin 400 port, right? well the only difference with 6 and 4 pin is the power. This card does NOT supply power to 6 pin firewire. It wants a 12v external adapter (I've used different cards with 5v USB voltage, but that might not be good) which is not included, and the jack is non standard, much smaller than any 12v adapter I've seen.
I suspect it is the same for 1394b.
If you were getting power to your device from a desktop firewire card, you're going to have to find another way now.
