I only have 120gb of space in my laptop which I use as a main computer.. it's running out of space so I am in the market for a solid external hdd. Not sure where start really, what brands are solid? I was looking at the mybook from WD, is it any good? How do those eSata drives work (I guess no use with my laptop?) Really looking for the best 1TB drive out there.. any suggestions? Also, what should I be looking at in a drive?

edit: is this article honest: http://www.pcworld.com/article/123728/top_10_external_hard_drives.html

Just don't go for any seagate harddrive as they have problems with their big drives (500GB to 1.5TB drives). WD is just fine and all others really.

To use eSATA you need to have an eSATA port on your computer, so if you have one, get one, as you will be able to use full speed on the harddrive. Otherwise just get one that connets via USB, they work fine too. So if you don't have any eSATA you don't need the hard drive to be fast as USB will limit the transfersspeeds to about 30MB/s.

About that site, i really can't say if they are honest, every site has their own opinion, so it doesn't matter who reviews the external harddrives as everyone has different opinions in what is the best. External harddrives are usualy not measured by performance, so that's why own opinions are stronger when it comes to those.

If you wanna be sure to fit HD-movies and DVD-movies re-format the hard drive with NTFS filesystem, as they are shipped with FAT32 filesystem standard which can only hold files that is a maximum of 3.99GB. FAT32 is kinda outdated :)
