    Hello everybody,
I have a LG R500 notebook computer. It's about 1½ years old. The other day I removed the battery for the first time and I found a little panel that says USIM. Now I'm wondering if it's for installing a WAN card. I removed the panel but nothing was there. So no I'm wondering where I can get a WAN card that will fit in there.
While I'm upgrading my wireless options I might as well upgrade the RAM and HDD.
Now I would like to now what kind of Ram I have (MHz and CAS latency), so I know what I should buy.
I'm also planning to upgrade the Harddrive. I know that my notebook uses a 2.5'' drive, but I don't know what hight it can use.

That link didn't help much... :( , I still don't know if I can install a WAN card or what HDD height my notebook supports...
I know that there is a program that can tell me the MHz and CAS latency of my RAM, but I can't remeber its name...
I've tried google'ing and tried searching LG's support pages but I couldn't find anything!

I think i'm right in saying the usim is for a sim card. For mobile broadband or the like.

Have you got the full specs of the laptop you have.

Looking at a few reviews of this, it looks as though the wireless card in most of these supports a/b/g/n-draft, would there be any point upgrading this??????

If you're not sure, just assume it's 9.5 mm. There are only very few drives higher than 9.5 mm, so it won't limit your choice much.

So any 2.5" 9.5mm SATA drive is good.

That's also what I thought, but when I removed the small panel, there was only some sort of silver sheet.

I would like to upgrade so it can use WAN, since I use it on the bus and in the train.

    The specs are:
    - Mobile Intel PM965 Express
    - Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 / 2 GHz, FSB 800 MHz, L2 4MB
    - 2 x 1 GB (max.) DDR2 SDRAM - 667 MHz PC2-5300
    - Intel Turbo Hukommelse (1 GB)
    - 160 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm
    - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS VRAM - 256 MB, TurboCache supports 1GB
    - 15.4" TFT Max. resolution 1680 x 1050 ( WSXGA+ )
    - Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
    - Bluetooth 2.0
    - 1,3 Megapixel Smart Cam
    - Fingerprint reader
    - 5-i-1 Cardreader (SD , Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, MultiMediaCard, xD-Picture Card)
    - DVD Combo / DVD Super Multi Dual Layer (DVD-R/RW, +R/RW, RAM
    - 6-cellet Litiumion, 5200 mAh
    - Width: 35.7 cm, Debth: 26 cm, Hight: 3.8 cm Weight: 2.8 kg

    Full specs at: http://www.lge.com/products/model/detail/r500.jhtml

    Can i put a SATA-300 in a SATA-150 port?
And how do I find out what the CAS Latency on my RAMs are?

Does the silver tray pull out, if so this is where the sim card goes, can you take a picture at all or find one???

I have a usb modem and it has a silvewr tray i put a sim card in which then slides into the usb modem.

For finding the ram latency. Download CPU-Z.

Thanks for the advice aout cpu-z. It's not so much a tray, but it's more a silver paper that covers something. My guess would be that the motherboard has a mini-pci-e port wich can be used for upgrades - like a WAN card, but what I "fear" is that my mini-pci-e port is being used for the TurboMemory.
There are pictures of the cover and the silver folio/paper at:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/21715311@N06/

According to cpu-z my DDR2 Ram has 5 5 5 12 latency and are running at 332MHz, but the specs says 667MHz. Is it half because it's Double Data Rate?
Would it be enough to compensate for the turbomemory if I upgraded my Ram to a 4 4 4 12 and the HDD from 160gb, 5400rpm to 7200rpm? - If I had to uninstall the trubomemory to make room for a mini-pci-e-WAN card?
    Where can I buy a mini-pci-e-WAN card?
