Howdy. This is my first post here.

I just successfully fixed the power jack on my Sony Vaio VGN-N250e. I took one look at the prices on OEM parts and just replaced the jack on the notebook and the plug on the PSU with a generic Type M. That works fine - the computer gets juice now.

My problem is that now I have no video. Also the fan doesn't start - not sure whether it ever did at startup - can't remember.

The drive starts and all the normal LED's come on but no video. I am looking now to see whether I have an old monitor that will work with the extra video out to see whether video is happening there.

What might have happened, and what is the process for troubleshooting?

DOH after doing so research and poking around, I decided I needed a break. Came back and saw the memory sitting out on the table where I left it. Popped it back in and everything's fine LOL.

So never mind. If someone is maintaining a troubleshooting guide you can add "make sure you didn't leave memory sitting out on the table; it needs to be plugged in to work."

Glad to hear it worked out. Lesson learned...always make sure there are no parts lying around after you put something back together :D.

Really? I have quite the collection of "extra" screws from various repairs I've done to things around the house... it seems that the computers have been pretty good about not having extras, but... ;)

I did that once. Started pulling my hair out why the system wouldn't boot. No RAM. Tee hee.
