I recently bought a Samsung NP350V5C laptop. As soon as I took it out of the box I noticed that the spacebar on the keyboard squeaked loudly, every time I pressed it. I then noticed that a panel at the bottom was loose, and returned the laptop, receiving another of the same unit in exchange. The new one's panel is fine, but the spacebar squeaks just like the last. Seeing as though this is the 2nd unit to do this, I don't even think there's any point in returning it, as the next is likely to have the same problem.

I've had a look online, and it seems that a number of other brands have laptops that do this too. Is it common? Is bad manufacturing the cause?

I tried to find out if there was anything I could do to fix it myself, but I can't figure out whether chiclet keys can be removed, and which lubricant to use.

What would be the best way to rectify this?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Typically, lubricant isn't used in keyboards these days, if at all (not sure if that was a thing in the past). And there isn't a way to fix an individual key yourself on a rubber dome keyboard iirc, so your best bet would be to replace the whole keyboard.

I'd try RMA-ing the laptop again, specifically expressing your issues with the noisy key and if they don't get it right again, ask for a refund to go buy another laptop. None of the laptops I've ever owned or used had a particularly noisy key when compared to the rest of the laptop.

Are rubber domes the kind used on all/most modern laptops?

I spent so long looking for this laptop, so it's unfortunate that I'll have to look again. I particularly want something with a decent dedicated GPU and matte screen. Anything you can recommend?

jarhead's recommending that you RMA it just one more time to see if the third unit has a quiet space bar.

^^^ Yep. And if it ends up having a noisy space bar once more, you're welcome to make a thread in WNBSIB so that we (and others) could help you find a replacement laptop.
