Can you use a Flash memory card as an upgrade in a Sony Vaio?
I have an older Sony Vaio w/Vista and 2gb of Ram, it has a flash card slot. 32 gb Flash cards are relatively cheap and available. Sony & Vista have that ReadyBoost feature. Is this feasable? I want to upgrade to a new laptop, but not 'til after the holidays when the new OS Windows & laptops are out. Gettin by 'till then..

It depends how old the SD card reader is and what interfaces of SD it is compatible with. SD goes up to 2GB, SDHC goes to 32GB, SDXC goes 32GB+. If you have an SDHC reader make sure you find an SDHC 32GB card and not an SDXC as that won't work. You might be able to check Sony's support page for your Viao to see what it is compatible with.

I don't think that Ready Boost will help you. Have you tried defragging your hard drive?

Well, I tried an 8gb USB flash drive & turned on ReadyBoost & that at least cut my load times in half, so, I thought a 32 gb SD card would add more flash memory but this flash drive and SD card are too old. And, yes, I did defrag the main drive, and cleaned up all my temp, log, & registry files. I'm guessing this is as good as it gets for this old Vaio. Oh well, time to do some more homework on my next buy. Window shopping as we write this. Christmas will be good to me this year LOL..

I wouldn't buy an SD card. For the same price, you can get a 2GB stick of memory that will be much faster. What kind of laptop do you have?
