    My laptop uses DDR3 PC3-8500 1066MHz SODIMM.

Does that mean I need to look for RAM specific to PC3-8500? Specific to 1066? What do I look for to know the RAM will work with my laptop?

Generally, any laptop (SODIMM) DDR3 RAM of the speed 1066MHz (and therefore the type PC3-8500) will work: just buy whatever's cheapest. Also, 1333MHz RAM should work as well with no issues, as it will downclock to the maximum speed your computer can support.

Depends on the specs of your laptop. If you just want RAM that works and is cheap, just get DDR3 1066 or PC3-8500. Certain CPU's and chipsets will support higher but again the difference from 1066 to 1333 or 1600 is not noticeable in normal use, only synthetic benchmarks, rendering/compiling.
