Just reinstalling everything on my secondary old Dell C640 laptop. Came across a Driver Detective software program that apparently scans your devices and notes which ones require newer drivers. But it is a fee based program for it to locate the drivers for you.

Are there any similar freeware programs available on the net that are good?

    Thanks!

I think is safer just to go to dell.com --> support and download your drivers from there. This way you're sure that they are genuine drivers

Windows Update also provides driver updates... that Driver Detective garbage sounds like a scam.

Just go to Dell's website and type in the service tag or the model number and you can download the drivers their. I have a Latitude C640, so I know which drivers you need. I downloaded all of them from Dell's website.

The system gets pretty hot, so install i8kfangui and force the fans to full speed to keep the system running cool.
