Hi, everyone. I am in the market for an ultraportable/ thin and light notebook with a Turion 64 Processor. I've gotten several recommendations on the Fujitsu Lifebook S2110 in this forum. Should I purchase this notebook, however, it would be in need of some serious upgrades. Primarily, I would replace the 40GB hard drive with a 1 GB 7200 rpm hard drive and also increase the memory from 512 MB DDR to 1 GB DDR. How much would it cost to procure these items as well as to have them installed? What are some reliable sites that would have good deals on these items? Thanks.

Here's a link with detailed specs on the Fujitsu Lifebook S2110:

Why don't you just upgrade them yourself? They are both very easy to do... All you have to do is open a door in the back of the laptop and literally plug the switch. That's it!

As for the cost of the ram/hd, just look on newegg. Or if you really don't want to upgrade for yourself, look on portableone. They will upgrade the stuff for you if you buy the hardware from them.

Yeah, I essentially installed extra RAM myself in my Compaq Evo before it died on me, but that was because the warranty had already expired. In speaking to salespeople at a couple of computer stores, it was explained to me that if I open the computer to install anything myself, I will void any store warranty purchased from them...and that is something I really don't was to do because, generally speaking, I *don't* know that much about computers.

I had also looked on Portable One... The base price for the s2110 is $1200 but if I upgrade to 1 GB RAM and 100 GB 7200 rpm hard drive, this raises the price by a little over $500. The total price for the computer would be $1719 without warranty and I am looking to spend $1500 max including warranty.

Do you think buying the items from NewEgg and paying someone install it would be cheaper? How would this affect any warranty that I would purchase from New Egg of Portable One, should I purchase the computer from either site? Thanks so much for your help

Looks like my only option might be Portable One...New Egg does not even carry a 100 GB 7200 rpm hard drive that is compatible with Fujitsu...I just checked! : (. Thanks for your help.

You do not void the warranty by upgrading the hard drive nor the memory, that guy was wrong.

I would check www.Newegg.com and www.ZipZoomFly.com, see what they charge for 7200RPM 100GB drives, as well as a 1GB RAM stick.

Huh? You sure they don't have an compatible 100gb/7200rpm with fujitsu??

There are only 2 companies that makes such drives: Hitachi and segate

Opening the door to the laptop might void the warrenty from the store you brought from, but that does not void the warrenty from fujitsu... I would go against buying all that stuff from portable one (even though they have terrific service), and just putting it in yourself.

What i'd recommend is to buy the base model (you can get it down to $1150 if you switch out the 60gb hd for the 40gb) and then buy the 7200rpm hd and ram from newegg. This way, any problems you have you can call up portable one and they will walk you through it.

basically, i'd pay for from P1 to get better service.
