GTX Titan M – GK110 finally appears for high-end laptops

Wheeeeee.... How many more cores is this compared to a 880m? Oh yea, almost double.
IMO, this marks the countdown of 2-3 years up until the point where desktops become obsolete for anything but budget-oriented builds or the highest-performance powerhouses.

EDIT: now that I think about it, that article was posted on April 1st :D Damn.

Not to mention that in 2-3 years desktop solutions will be more than Titan ^3 (cubed) above any of the available notebook solutions then. ;)

Kepler continues to impress with its sheer energy efficiency. A Titan GK110 chip has a TDP of 250W, assuming stock voltage is 1.2V simply binning for 1V already drops the TDP to 173W, it was a miracle they got it down to 100W. Unless the new MXM 3.1 board has a max TDP of 150W and/or a revision of the chip.

Maxwell GM110 will be a real treat. I wouldn't be so fast to declare desktops to be obsolete. Sure, Laptops may have "somewhat" caught up in performance but they are a very very long way from matching the cost effectiveness and cooling capacity of a desktop. Unfortunately, cooling and power technology has a very long way to go before a Laptop can truly rival a desktop of the same Price. Physics dictates that parity perhaps may never be truly reached.
Somehow, I think this chip has a distinct professional spin to it with the Titan Double Precision performance.
