Now, I might be totally crazy, and it could be my fan, but I have this very quiet and yet somewhat high pitched beep that comes from my computer (somewhere inside of it). It could totally be my fan, but I'm just checking. I want to know what it is. Any ideas?

Does it sound like a fan-belt, or like an early 1980's synthesizer?

Mechanical, a noise a machine might make (eg HDD or cd drive spinning up)

Sound, something that comes out of the speakers

More like a synthesizer. A very high pitched one. It sounds like something Pink Floyd would do. Very quiet, and very high pitched.

It sounds like, "deet deet deet deet deet", then stops, then comes back. No idea why.

Woah, okay. I think I know why, whenever click back to microsoft word, it begins, then when back to firefox, it stops (or its not loud enough to hear). Too weird.

Do you guys think it could be the system beep? The rapid succession is weird...

The beep itself should be coming from the little speaker on-board the motherboard - the one that's usually used by the BIOS during POST to tell you that you're up the creek. ;)

What it means, I don't know. Is it 5 short beeps, that are then repeated? If you know what BIOS you have, try googling around to find the beep codes for it and see if there's anything illuminating.

No, it's just a constant succession of beeps that bothers my ears.

i would pull your baby apart and fiddle around with its innards (oh, now that sounds creepy)

i am pretty sure your mobo speaker is the only thing that will beep. the succession meanings will be in your mobo manual. i don't think bios version has anyhting to do with that.

Yeap, its the speaker. Why, I don't know. But when I stick my ear up against it, its the loudest.

EDIT: Googling it brings me to this damn page :p
