Well I've upgraded to the X9100 CPU, the best my system will support. I have not been in the mobile field for long, was wondering if another Extreme edition cpu will ever be released that is supported by the PM45 chipset. Did something like this ever happen with Santa Rosa?

You mean like how the X7800, X7900 and X9000 are all supported by Santa Rosa?

Ya kinda like that. I assume the X7800 was the first Xtreme cPU released for the Santa Rosa, and they progressively got better up to the X9000. IS it likely that we'll see betterr cpu's for penryn than the X9100?

From what I've heard, Intel will release a Penryn refresh in Q1, 2009. Don't know if those processors will be compatible with current Penryn's though.

Mike I just got a T9400. I had a AMD 1.6Ghz I feel like the king of the world right now. Do you have a real need for more? Just curious? And Quads are coming?

Quads are coming, but unlikely supported. Right now, I don't have need for more. I'm happy at my 3.5GHz. Mostly just curious

    I think Qx9500(2.66ghz quad core) is expected Q1 2009.

I doubt another dual core extreme edition would be released. T9900 with 3.06ghz at 35w would be a great chip.

How does one know what upgradability their laptop has in the CPU realm? I have an HP HDX 16t with the T9600. Can I get anything better?

You can but it would be a waste of money.

Will any Socket P chip theoretically work? Is Nahalem planned for Socket P?

Nope, you can't upgrade to Nahalem period. Totally different socket. You can upgrade to any Socket P, but you are already in the higher end of CPUs.

Thanks sgogeta4... I figured that Nahalem would likely be a new socket type, but I couldn't find data sheets on it.

Yeah, I'm licking my chops trying to decide between the T9800 and T9900. That much speed at 35w is a dream come true.
