I am looking at this SSD, as I am very interested in having speed, but a decent amount of size for the price as well. This was the cheapest in Canada, so dont give me any new egg links.

Anyone have any experience with the G skill drives? I read a review on @ tweak town, and it topped the patriot warp series, and sometimes had random slow write speeds, but that is to be expected with the cheaper MLC drives.

    Here is the review
, it is the 128gb version though, there should be no difference correct, I dont think data density is an issue with SSD drives.

I also skimmed through the SSD main thread and saw nothing of this drive, i think it is quite new, as the review for the 128gb version is only on the 9th of this month.

Wondering what peoples opinions are on this, and whether it is a good decision or not.

well it was either this drive or a 500gb, 5400rpm drive, if it is two platter will have a higher density/ transfer rate than that 320gb drive.

I saw someone post a review of the 128 maybe on here, and I think he was having stuttering issues, but he was still trying to tweak it to make it work better.

At the moment I wouldn't consider any MLC drives other than Samsung and Intel. Any 320GB 7200RPM would be preferable. Plus they will be faster than the 500GB 5400RPM drives, the density thing doesn't make up for access time or transfer speeds.

    Here is my experience:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=319992

Sent it back RMA today. I tried tweaking it a reasonable amount, but did not want to have to become a rocket scientist just to make a 159 hard drive work. Careful about the return policy. I had to fight for mine and am paying a restocking fee. (price of being a computer nut :)

I am going SLC next. trying to wait till first quarter when the infamous jmicron is supposed to have a fixed controller, among other offerings by other companies. Too bad Intel did not price theirs to sell, it would be a different market if they did.

MLC .. slow random writes ... sucks whatever way you look at it. Most likely, it would be only a little bit more faster than a nowaday 7200 rpm HDD. Unless you use it to read only.

only Intel manages to mask up somewhat the downs of the technology with some DRAM on board, but with real life performance it is still slower than a simple SLC drive

benchmarked - Intels SSD beats all. Yet, a simple computer boot shows that the slower Samsung SLC 64GB SSD loads Windows faster, lol.
