Hello, just wanted to ask if it's possible to replace the 8600m GT in a G2S? Also does someone know where is it, I had a look inside the laptop today, but I have no experience with laptops. Is it possibly besides the cooling fan at the top left corner (when the laptop is flipped upside down)?

I'd also like to apologize if this a question which has been asked a million times, but I wasn't able to find an answer with the forum search nor via google.

    Thank you.

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

    Unfortunately, you are stuck.

only a handful of systems have the capability to change out videocards... usually the high-end ones.

Not so - Most recent Acers with a discrete graphics card (even the lower-end AMD models) have MXM slots and can change their graphics cards.
Unfortunately, ASUS doesn't use MXM cards, so you're SOL.

    That was fast.
My brother better contact Asus then, because it's not about my laptop, which I forgot to mention. The warranty should be still valid, if I remember right.
Do you think they would RMA just because the GPU is running extremely hot? Or at least according to my brother. If I remember right around 86°C under load, can't recall the idle temps.

Thanks again for the fast reply.

86 under load is starting to get bad, but it's not RMA-worthy.
Have you cleaned out the vents on the laptop? Accumulated schmutz can choke a laptop's fan and prevent decent cooling.

I am talking about all notebooks in general... not just ASUS.

less than 1% of notebooks have modular video cards.

discrete means that its not an integrated videocard with no standalone GPU... relying on CPU and shared memory.

that does NOT mean if its interchangeable or not.

Example: the Gateway P FX notebooks may have a discrete Nvidia 9800M in it, but the videocard is not removable since its integrated onto the motherboard.

Cleaned the vents today, it wasn't quite so dusty that it would choke the fan. Well, just have to think of something, thaks for all the replys.

You could consider getting a notebook cooler - those have been known to help big-time with keeping temps down.
