Hi there. I've searched the forums a bit and can only find that the t9900 and x9000 are the best core 2 duos to get for this laptop, but no where can i find what processors this actual one supports. as the two best ones are quite expensive. I just want something about 2.5 2.6
Quad's i heard are a risk, and pretty much way out of my price limit anyway.
Like from the p7450 2.1ghz onwards.

Can anyone shed a list to me on what ones are supported onwards?

    Thanks so much

T9900 and X9100 (Not the x9000 btw which is older) are the last and fastest Core 2 Duos period. As for the quad the rule of thumb is if its not a reseller model or didnt come with a quad it wont run one.

Last i saw on ebay T9600's are running 100 used. Payed 260 used for myne a couple years ago no regrets. The iMac E8xxx series cpu's could be a serious heat problem paired with the hot graphics card you have so i will warn against it while people start looking at your budget talk and recommending it.

    Thanks for the recommendations. :>

Do you know if I wished to sell on my p7450 2.1/2 How much it would go for?

The T9400 and 9600 are pretty much within my budget of upgrade.

Are they a lower nm too? Have a higher level 3 cache?

I still have my P7450 and never tried to sell it. Its not really an upgrade for anyone and its not like alot of people have C2D laptops missing processors so no clue on value.

The nm process for penryn chips are all the same, the previous generation of core 2 duo's was not but the P7450 is penryn and so is the T9900.

ah fantastic, so it should stay the same temperatures with ease. :>

I put AS5 on it aswell, as it was getting abit too hot for my tastes, now it's generally nominal at 80C GPU when gaming and about 55- 60 CPU also.

Otherwise GPU is at 60 cppu about 50 or so as the fan spins at 2400 RPM

Actually if temps were a concern the nm process isnt the question. The P series cpus are usually 25 watt thermal design while the T series is 35 watts and will run hotter in a given situation. The p series runs at lower comparable voltages and is more expensive. Also wasnt available at the highest clock speeds.

    Oooh, i see. Damn.

    Did they make a 2.5 or 2.8 P series core 2?
I'd rather not put something hotter in this laptop.

Had a quick look and the P series 9700 and 8800 cost the samish

but they are 27W. and the T's are 35?

Bah, I am not sure now. I think the T series would do as it's not really going to be away from the charger. but doesnt that use a lower FSB?

Merom was 800mhz and Penryn is 1066 has nothing todo with the series prefix. If it has a lower fsb its likely not the cpu your looking for. I think the T9500 was merom and the T9550 was penryn so yeah the numbers do run into each other. I think the top P series was like 2.66 maybe 2.8 i cant look it up now.

hmm thanks for that, let me know what you find if you can.

I guess you can't also control the systems fan speed. I've tried about 20 different programs, Only Aida 64 even reads the RPM, but has no option of fan contol.

The top end P-model of C2D processor is P9700 2.8ghz and has a rated TDP of 28W, it should run cooler than a T9600.

It might not be cheap though, it was roughly in the same price range as a x9100 at the time I upgraded my processor, and I ended up grabbing a x9100 instead.

If I were you I would go E8335 or as me E8435 route. I have bought E8435 and upgraded into my G51VX and it is 55W TDP. I have undervolted it to run 1.1V stable at all multis and cant be happier. 75C in gaming no matter what I throw at it. I have contacted seller and they have E8335 E0 steppings 2.93, but on ebay is listed old steppings.

Here is a link. If you decide to go with it, make sure you ask them for E0 steppings. Cant beat $65 for C2D 2.93GHz

You linked the 2.66 Ghz version lol. I know you said ask for the E0 stepping but that seems like the wrong way of going about it. Your looking for the SLGEB.

There are 2 different 8335's and 2 different 8435's. The 8335 comes in the 2.66 Ghz SLAQC and the 2.93ghz SLGEB. The 8435 comes in the 44 watt SLAQD and the SLGEA 55 watt both at 3.06ghz.

The OP has expressed concern over keeping current battery life so the 55 watt is suicidal, though i believe last i checked the 44 watt tended to be twice as much putting it at more than a 35 watt 2.8 Ghz T9600 at 100 bucks.

The 2.93 Ghz E8335 is a nice option over the T9600 if you find it at a good price, slight base clock speed bump and the same TDP supposedly.

Remember the cpu heated air cools the gpu the hotter the cpu is the hotter the gpu will run due to ambient air temps prior to the gpu pipe.

Yeah, this is true, I dont wanna mess up my battery life, as i do use it out and a bout a little i suppose.

But, Heat is fine, i managed to find a way to make the G60VX Fan run at 5200 RPM all the time.

I can barely even hear the fan and i can always PWM again.

I basically just got a very thin knife blade, , gently tugging the blue wire while pressing on the metal in the plastic socket of the fan lead, and out slides the pwm wire, you just slide it right back in again if you want it pwm.

But as you said. Yeah 25W TDP is what i'd want not to mess up battery expectancy.

Powermizer has been turned on, so that's also helping keeping it cool as it's lowering the voltages down nicely. cPU goes to about 0.825V from 1.025. and the GPU from 0.950 to 0.850 as well as lowering it's clocks.

Hey again. I was also wondering if there was a possibility of a GPU upgrade? I've seen a few posts about putting a 460m in this laptop or something?
    Many thanks!

Quick bump about the GPU upgrade.
Also my original 260m with this laptop died, and i had a new one put in after sending it for repair, this new one seems to run a loooot cooler.

    Thanks!
