Even with the exact same DDR2 667 modules that I swapped from an SR notebook into a Montevina, memory performance went up nearly a full point on WEI (sorry I was not able to install a benchmarking program as it was my friend's computer). But going from Kingston HyperX 4-4-4-12 667mhz into a Montevina also running the same timings and speed (not 5-5-5-15 at 800), WEI went from a fluctuating 5.0 to 5.1 on the machine in my sig to an easy 5.9.

I think the Montevina's memory controller is the best memory controller Intel has made since the i915 dual channel DDR2 controller! I'm somewhat tempted to get a Montevina now, but I'll hold off at least another 2 years since the laptop I'm using now is a highly spec'd laptop that really has no substitute (see link to pic in sig).

Don't worry. In real life the speed and specs of the memory have no effect on system performance. Even if you had DDR2-533 CL5, it wouldn't bottleneck your system.

Well I figure the faster memory speed plus bus speed would make at least some difference. Especially if you had integrted graphics which could take advantage of faster bus and memory speeds. But I suppose in reality, only synthetic benchmarks show the improvments.

See part 2 of my E6400 review (link below) for some results using both 2GB PC5300 and 2GB PC6400. There was no difference to PCMark05 but the faster memory did boost 3DMark. This is with Integrated graphics.

I'm referring to the same exact memory when compared in an i965 vs a GM45 though. If you were to compare those two (rather than comparing PC5300 and PC6400 on the same chipset), the performance difference would be clear (at least synthetically)
