I bought a GTX 680m to try to install in a Dell Precision M6600. It came with an X-bracket and four normal screws. But for some reason, the X-bracket doesn't have places for the heatsink screws to screw into, so I've been unable to install the GPU.
I've attached a picture so you can see what I mean.

I'm guessing I need to buy nuts that can be screwed into, or do I need to buy another X-bracket? Any help will be much appreciated.

Where did you get the 680m? Did it come with a heatsink? It needs a heatsink designed specific both the laptop and the GPU. What GPU was in your laptop to begin with?
-
I bought it from eBay here, but it didn't come with a heatsink. I'm currently using an AMD FirePro M8900, so I guess I can't even use the X-bracket from that card. Still, I thought that the X-bracket my seller sent me would instead look something like this: imgur: the simple image sharer
That X-bracket has places for the heatsink to screw into. -
I was planning on buying that exact card for my M15X, except I looked at the x-bracket and it didn't look right so I didn't order one.

I'm a newbie at laptop x-brackets and heatsinks as I've only had experience with 4 gaming laptops since 09 including a spare clevo heatsink that came w/ my card. I'll tell you, that X-Bracket doesn't look right at all! Its the first x-bracket for a laptop gpu that I've seen without polls to screw into.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I'll just order an X-bracket from eBay.

Does the 680M use the same size brakcet as a 260M?
-
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
I would find it incredible if it did use the same size bracket as the 260m.
I can be wrong though. -
uses the same as the following 480m/485m/580m/quadro 4000m/quadro 5000m/quadro k4000m/quadro k5000m if I remeber correctly u need to get the heatsink kit compatible for the M6600 so probally a Quadro kit officially from dell or modify a heatsink kit to make it work...

I'm thinking of purchasing the same card from the same seller as the op but don't wanna run into backplate problems.
It looks like the 260M backplate should fit though.
To the OP does your ATI cards backplate work? -

260m backplate works fine so does ATI brackets, really any MXM 3.0 bracket will work I think.

Yup. Like I said, any backplate will work for the card the OP bought, which is not an ATI card.
-
As long as it doesn't come in contact with anything in the back it should work.
To the OP, have you tried the ATI backplate? -
The bracket for my AMD card seems to be glued to the back, so I didn't want to take it apart, in case the AMD bracket was not compatible.
I remember reading in the M6600 thread that the heatsink was the same for both AMD and NVIDIA cards, so I don't think that's an issue.
Anyway, the bracket I ordered is coming either today or tomorrow, so I'll let you guys know whether it works with the card. -
Hi if anyone know where to purchase the x-bracket for 6990m, Mine has broken for some reason lol, and my card is not working. Is it only ebay? It is selling at 25usd + shipping(20 or more), so would be arouind 50 usd which I think is quite expensive.
Thanks
GPU X-bracket
