I just purchased an m15x and now i may be regretting my decision. Alienware claims the 8800 gtx is the most powerful mobile gpu out there today but i have seen information to the contrary, but then again, I'm not sure.

Is there any online resource where i can compare the latest mobile GPUs. I have tried gpg comparison but they do not have specs on all the cards i am looking for. And navigating around the nvidia site is horrid through my experiences.

My basic stupid noob questions are as follows.

Is there an online resource that i can use to compare most recent mobile gpus?

What is the most powerful mobile gpu on the market today? (and what laptops offer it)

Finally, and this is the most noob question of all, When the name of the card is 8800m gtx, the m stands for mobile correct?

I know i am a noob at this but i recognize my noobiness and bow to your superior wisdom and ability. (yes i have scanned the forums and have not found what i am looking for)

Hey, I'm pretty much a newbie as well but I've done a good bit of research because I've been aching to get my new laptop...

Well I suppose what they're saying at AW is true for NOW. There are the new 9800 graphics cards coming out, with the 9800M GTS being below the 8800M GTX (I'm assuming it's a little better than the 8800M GTS) the 9800M GT being a little better than the 8800M GTX, and the 9800M GTX being the best.

If you want to see a lot of benchmarks go to notebookcheck.com and click the UK flag for english.

And yes, the M stands for mobile.

Ah and Alienware is overpriced, I wouldn't buy one unless they're having a huge sale (which they never do...haha) I would buy a Sager laptop, go to xoticpc.com or powernotebooks.com and check out these two laptops, the NP5796 if you want a 17 inch, or the NP8860 if you want a 15 inch. I'll be getting the latter because it's more affordable.

I would, except idk if i want to go through with the restocking and ordering a new one. I already built a Clevo i know i would buy if i didn't have the alienware.

2 Hdd's in a raid instead of just 1 and the 9800m GT with one stick of 2 gb ram instead of the 2 1 gig sticks alienware forces you to have, so it is easy to buy another stick and put it in.

I should have joined these forums way before i bought, i was stupid.

Call them on the phone and see if you can cancel your order. If you just placed it that should be possible. They take a bit to build and ship.

well the 8800m gtx is a great gpu don't get it confused with... well basically any other model minus the not yet released 9800m gtx. the 8800m gtx was the fastest gpu when alienware announced it in the m15x page/m17x page, but everyone knows it can't stay the best for longer than a few months... i wanna try and show you why you shouldn't regret your decision...

well all the laptops out now will be updated in a few months, and again a few months later, theres' always an update to the chassis, the bios, the hardware, software what have you. the m15x is sick...looking. it has the alienfx which i hope you got cause that's about half the fun of the laptop.

the other is the great performance it can offer. the downside to the laptop is the build, which has been wayward since the release of the laptop. its still a great machine, but heavily overpriced in my opinion, but it can hold its own.

personally i'm aiming high... np9262 fully loaded minus sli 9800m gtx, i dont need the sli, im not that rich

I would try and return it, the sager NP8660 is a better system and does not have the problems which the M15X has.
I am not sure if alienware has fixed all of the problems with their laptop, like screen creeking, lid not shutting and overheating, but I would return it and get a more powerful sager for less money.
It wont have the sweet paint, but it will be more powerful.
