    GPU downclocking after prolonged use?

    Okay, so my gt 555m (optimus) downclocks to 203mhz (optimus goes down to 51mhz) and just gets stuck at those speeds no matter what game I run. (High Performance power scheme, no battery,Plugged in) Only way to fix the problem is to restart my gpu. Both at stock and even downclocked this keeps happening (Also this only happens when my laptop is idling, under load it never downclocks or throttles) Cpu is not under load as well. Is this a hardware or a driver issue? (I had the motherboard swapped out recently because of northbridge issues, but the last mobo+gpu had the same problem as well.)
