I just got a HP Reverb G2 and I am having trouble setting it up. I'm using a type-c to display port 1.4 adapter to connect the headset to the laptop.

Windows mixed reality detects and sets up the headset without issue and it shows the mixed reality environment on the laptop just fine but the headset display is black. The headset is not faulty either as I have tried it on my old desktop and it works fine there.

The adapter works for sure as I have tested it on another monitor. I've also tried using the nvidia drivers from the GS75 support page to no avail.

Does anyone know how to get it working?

Knowing the headset works on the other PC rules that out. Were you using it with the same adapter? Does the adapter require drivers as well? I know with past things like a USB dock that had GPUs to expand monitors the drivers can be finnicky with Windows.

I would probably just boot into safe mode and delete the drivers from device manager and then reboot into windows normally and install the Nvidia package instead of letting windows install the drivers. Reboot again to finalize the install and try the headset again.

Only the laptop needs the adapter as it doesn't have a displayport output.

And no, as I mentioned the adapter works fine without any drivers when outputting to a regular monitor.

I've already done a DDU and reinstalled the gpu drivers as well, no dice.

Well, that rules out everything on the software side then.

It's possible the GPU can't make the handshake since there's not a DP port on the laptop?

That leads me to the cable then as the next suspect unless the adapter is C one side and DP on the other w/o a cable being involved.

When I was testing C cables they varied considerably in function. i ultimately went with a Necktec cable for 10gbps bandwidth and 100w power capacity as some cables would only carry data at 480mbps but handle higher voltage. Being this is VR and all I would think you need high bandwidth to trigger the display. However if you're using the same cable with the desktop then that would be ruled out as well.

Other than the GPU not supporting it or the cable being the issue I can't think of anything else it could be.

Its a Type c to dp adapter, not cable.

Also if the gpu couldnt make the handshake then an external display wouldn't work either but it does.
