GTX 1160? MXM released under quadro p4200

So I was doing some digging and noticed nvidia is releasing a new 1060 on the GP104 core as opposed to the gp106 the 6gb 1060's were normally on. link
I noticed that a new quadro variant (p4200) was released earlier this year also on GP104 - link

The p4200 is more a less a gtx 1070 (exact same specs) with a TDP of 115w and comes in normal mxm form factor - link to one i found on ebay. Its faster than the p5000.

the p5200 is also quite interesting - According to the site above it is just a 1080 but with gddr5 memory instead. Now as this card is available in the hp zbook I assume it would be the same form factor meaning that this is technically a standard form factor 1080.

There was also a leak in the lenovo y50 manual showing a leak of the gtx 1160 gpu.



Whats interesting is that on the eurocom website, both the p4200 and p5200 use this exact same 'N18e' ID

yep thats correct, both quadro P4200, P5000 and P5200 are standard 3.0b MXM form factors oh how id LOVE to get my hands on a P5200

afaik, the vendors offering laptops with those MXM cards (HP, Dell, Lenovo iirc) all get the same exact cards so they should be interchangeable into the likes of MXM based Clevos, Alienwares, etc... definitely exciting options, IF you can find one and that at a somewhat reasonable price

 

This is comparing the p3200 (on the left) and the gtx 1060. I assume if they were clocked the same the p3200 would be much faster. According to techpowerup its a little bit faster than the 1060, so I imagine the 1160 will just be this card but with higher clock speeds. Either that or it will be the same performance but with less power draw.

Wow - This video says that the p3200 inside the thinkpad is apparently using GDDR6??

 

Nah, that's a typo. I've seen P52 owners on this board confirm that their P3200 Max-Q uses GDDR5.
