Hi guys, I'm currently going to be buying a gaming laptop within the next week. I looked at the Sager 7358 with a i7 and GTX 860m, and an MSI GT60 with a i7 and a GTX 770m. I know they are almost the same graphics power, but what graphics card would be "future" proof and will give me a great gaming experience?

Thank you guys so much! :)

But do you think the GTX 770m would run a lot cooler if I apply a newer thermal paste to it?

From seeing the thermal temperatures of the MSI Gt60 (GTX 770m) it runs 20-25'F cooler than the GTX 860m on the Sager.

Those two are completely different systems so a comparison would not be very reliable. (One laptop may have better cooling than the other). But even so, I would recommend the 860m because it has the new Maxwell architecture. Some games even show a significantly better fps with the 860m, but it doesn't seem to be the case the other way around. It's always better to get a new generation GPU than to invest in an older one.

The 860m runs extremely cool. Even with an heavy OC, I can't get it to run hotter than 72c. Most of the time it's sitting in the mid 60s after hours of gameplay.

The only issue is the 860M is soldered to the motherboard and can't be upgraded... I would get something like the NP8268 with a 860M/870M as the GPU can be upgraded later...

If it's an 860M Maxwell, definitely over a 770M. 860M Kepler nope. Are there Maxwell 860M that are MXM? I thought they were all soldered.

If it's the kepler version of the gtx 860m then the gtx 770m is a tad bit faster. If it's the maxwell version of the gtx 860m then the gtx 860m is a tad bit faster but not only is it a tad bit faster its power consumption is heavily lowered meaning quieter running laptops higher battery life and cooler temps all while being a tad bit faster than the gtx 770m. Remember this is only if it's the maxwell version. If it's the kepler version get the gtx 770m.

It is common knowledge. Um I would advise going with a kepler 770M if it is cheap as it can be easily upgraded down the line. Maxwell 860M machines my 5 year old laptop can and does beat simply because it has a MXM slot.

MXM is worth ALOT and saves ALOT in the long run!

Yup that is common knowledge.. IMO, if your'e going to get a MXM laptop, get a 780M at least... With the 970/980M, the 770M is obsolete...
