ok ok I knew I have posted a million topics the last week so sue meI have gotten it too 580 core 1450 shader 950 memory. I have gotten it to 600 1500 975 but it usually crashes in game. Is this because my GPU is not as good as some others? I have heard other people getting it to that but it rarely works or for very long. Would it work if I increased voltage or is it just that it can't go any higher?

More voltage should help.

Just take a look at nibitor (this software is free and will let you mod your vbios).
Then you should be able to change the voltage to the highest available in nibitor and flash with nvflash.
If you want even more voltage, just find the voltage regulator on the video board and pencil mod it.
Maybe this will help:

soo has anyone heard of overclocking the GTX260m above 600 1500 975? I know ram can get to 1000 but i am more concerned with core and shader. I am pretty happy if i can get 600 1500 with voltage increase but wasn't sure if thats the top limit. That is at least the highest i have ever heard

756/1170:
varachio`s 3DMark06 score: 13877 marks with a GeForce GTX 260M
But that looks like an mxm 3.0 card, mxm 2.1 cards probably couldn't get the VRAM that high. -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
yea i think asus uses some BS proprietary card so i can't even upgrade my gpu...looking into eGPU. I can overclock PCIe i think and do duel expresscards i guess.
EDIT: do you know what voltage he had to use? -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
I downloaded NVFlash 5.118 for Windows and it just runs through some command help menus and then closes...what the duce? Also the nibitor read doesn't work either....any advice?

nvflash only works in dos, so you will need to make a bootable usb drive with dos on it.
Guide here:
Guide to Video BIOS flashing
If you can upload a copy of your vbios, I'll take a look at it, you can save it using GPUz (just click on the little chip icon with the green arrow). -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
says BIOS reading is not supported on this device? BIOS version is 62.92.a2.00.08...i swear with this thing its nothing but trouble lol..ASUS Never again!!! Granted i did get a good deal back then. only 1300 bucks with a bunch of goodies at ole zipzoomfly lol
-
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
Moral do you know what is going on with it saying that? How do i run a bootable drive with the nvflash? Do i put put it on a flashdrive and set the bios to boot from usb first? If i can't get my vBIOS from gpu-z will it work with nvflash?
-
niffcreature ex computer dyke
It means that the vBIOS is likely integrated into the sBIOS, so you need to disassemble your entire system BIOS to find the vBIOS file, edit that with Nibitor, save it and rebuild your BIOS. Not easy but possible.
Thing is, you can change whatever you want in vBIOS but... it doesn't mean the voltage will change, necessarily. Asus does make their own proprietary cards, and they don't have much reason to build them with a voltage regulator that can actually output more voltage than stock. -

Niff is probably right, but try to dump the bios with nvflash anyway, it is worth a try.
-
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
how do i get the BIOS? just download a new one? then if i can change it load it with win flash? Also how do you run nvflash as a bootable usb?
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Follow the part titled "Making a bootable USB stick" here:
Guide to Video BIOS flashing
Then you put nvflash on the usb key you have made, and boot from the key. Type in the command to dump the vbios. -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
vBIOS is firmware in the menu selection right? i noticed it didn't say vBIOS and was wondering what it was called in the program.
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Yes that's correct.
-
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
ok sooo do i need to pay this guy to get access to a bootable usb dos image file?

Don't pay anyone.
Here is a better guide to make a bootable USB stick:

lol thx btw...it is probably going to take 45 mins to flash my SD card...man. No usb drive big enough or recognized :/
Also i would rep you but i already have i guess...oh well can't remember anything....like the stove earlier today....lucky the house didn't burn down lol
What the duce!!! First my usb is too small now my SD card is too big....ahhhhh What size device do i need! -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
What is the capacity of the USB drive?
What is telling you that it's too small? -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
16mb too small my 1 gig doesn't show up in HP program and my 4 gig shows up but it doesn't seat well and i am not going to flash with a usb drive that is finicky. Also my SD card is 16 gigs
EDIT: i lost my 8 gig microSD card soo i dont have one of those to use either.
Everything seems to blow up in my face! lol. Don't get me start with networking...nothing ever works for me when it comes to networks or internet lol. NBR wouldn't load for hours until I did a reboot. Cough wouldn't load for opera but other browsers...how does a browser just stop working for a single site! lol -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Does your 1gb show up in windows explorer?
-
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
yes but not in HP program....no clue why
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Can you try formatting it as fat instead of ntfs?
Need to copy all files from the drive first otherwise you will lose the data as you probably already know. -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
eDIT: windows wont let me formate it with FAT so i am trying the DOS boot as FAT32
EDIT It worked as FAT32. after my movie finishes i'll try to get my vBIOS. Crossing my fingers....last hope lol
EDIT: at least its my last pop unless you want to look at my BIOS
EDIT #$^#$^&@$%&@$%&@$%& RAGEE!!! So that bootable windows 98 dos works and I throw the nvflash files on it and i typed c:/nvflash.exe and it says these files cannot be run in DOS!!!! Why is this so difficult! What am I doing wrong or is this thing just from hell! -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Try this version:
Download NVFlash 5.118 for Windows | techPowerUp -

yea that is the one i am using the newest windows version
-

Sorry I gave you the wrong link, try this one :

HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
well no one explained you dont actually run the program....and this should have worked just using windows 7 command prompt boot up...right? That usb thing was not really needed from what i understand. Any ways i fingured our the hard way that you just type nvflash -b oldbios.nvr or whatever in DOS...you never load the program....dumb. Either way it didn't work.
See images...weird i can't upload jpgs to NBR...whatever image here i come

moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
That means niff was right, the vbios is probably integrated into the system bios and not on a separate EEPROM.
-
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
EDIT i tried to laod the bios in nibitor for kicks and giggles and nothing. Can I flash with a different GTX260m BIOS or no? -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
You can't flash because you don't seem to have the chip on your board.
All you could do would be to ask for a system bios mod. -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
like email asus to do that?
-
Yeah, that's unfortunatelly true. This asus card dont have eeprom chip soldered on pcb. You can even see on Your photos empty solder pads on it in left upper corner on the pcb: Imageshack - internalheatsinks2.jpg
Asus use AMI bios then to extract it from main bios we can use MMTOOL. One of PCI Option ROM is gtx260m vbios. After extracting and saving it, we can open it wit NiBiTor. It looks like voltage in extra clock rate entry is set to 0.95V. There'a 8 values of voltage to choose: 0.75, 0.8, 0.85, 0.9, 0.95, 1, 1.05, 1.1V.
Now only changing extra voltage on higher value eg. 1 or 1.05V and Save this file. Next replace PCI Option ROM from main bios with modified rom, save and voila.
I did that, replaced stock vbios with one with with 1V. Everything looks fine, but since I did this first time in my life I can't guaranty enything. I can upload modified bios, but maby safer will be get in touch with someone who do this stuff all the time and ask them to help with this mod eg guys on forum bios-mods.com Bios Mods -The Best BIOS Update and Modification Source - VGA.
And at the end link to screen how this looks like, maby it will help someone one day too: http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/5320/gtx260mvbiosasus.jpg. -
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
can you make a guide or post with step by step and links to programs needed? if you do that then i can do it and i'll go a step farther and take screen shots the whole way and make a complete guide. -

Without changing the voltages my memory gets unstable overclocked much above the correct clock of 1000. I am stable though as 600/1000/1450 and temps seem under control...............
-
HopelesslyFaithful Notebook Virtuoso
yea you can't overclock the 260m in the g51j i have a link to the tech inferno forum in my cooling post explaining it.
GTX260m and overclocking....
