Hi all, i've googled for hours and i couldn't find information or benchmarks comparing both chips of the 965m, and tbh i was looking for any redeeming factor for my older GM204 revision.

Any helpful information would be highly appreciated.

Oh, i also couldn't find any unlocked Vbios to OC beyond +135mhz on the core.

    edit: i have the Alienware 17 R3 with 6700hq
    edit 2: sorry, i meant GM206 not GM107
edit 3: @Danishblunt has unlocked the Vbios and helped me reach 1.25ghz (boost) on the core up from 950mhz (boost), temps are excellent and everything is stable :D

Well with the vBios is something I can help out.

Also there is no such thing as a kepler GTX 965M, I don't know where you even got that idea from.

There is no difference. They are the different chips, but one has been cutdown to make it a 965m, and one is a 965m. There really wouldn't be any discernable difference. As for an unlocked Vbios or OC one, flash it in Windows or DOS, don't use team viewer

I don't see how you can flash a GM206 vBIOS onto a GM204 card in any way that doesn't end up in an error or a brick.

I think OP is trying to ask if there is a difference between the GM206 965M (if they were ever made) and the GM204. There isn't because the GM206 variant would have been laser cut so you could never fully unlock it

It's the original GM204 version of the 965M that is laser cut, because the later version features the fully enabled GM206 core. The latter 965M variant is faster and more efficient.

They have the same layout, its only the core/mem speed that would be different

Op is happy with his modded vBios, running happily 1.25ghz OC, He wanted something that wouldn't cause 2 high temps, so we fodun happy medium, while I was at it, we fixed his throttlestop as well.

They are not. The GM204 is a bigger GPU, at a high level it's like a GM206 mirrored.

GM206 has an updated video encode/decode engine. It supports HVEC/h.265 decoding, whereas the GM204 uses a combination of CUDA cores and the video block for HVEC stuff (and thus uses more power). As far as I'm aware that's the only difference as far as the 965M is concerned.
