    Hi Guys,
My OS drive is an SSD.
    All programs run from SSD
I am looking to add a 2nd drive a HDD to install games on.

Currently I have a 1 TB WD Green which was my previous OS drive. 1TB should be enough to install games on.

Now would u guys recommend me buying a WD Black as non-OS gaming drive for my PC or should I stick with WD Green and won't notice any difference.

    PC setup:
    Windows 10
    Core i7-6700
    16GB RAM
GTX 745 4GB (stock graphic card)

I will be upgrading my Graphic card in the next 6 months. I do light gaming like FIFA, Assassin's Creed type of games.

    Thanks :)

    Hi,
As far as I know green means 5400 rpm and the black is spinning at 7200. So definitely a black is better. Gaming on a 5400 rpm drive is a pain these days.

Indeed.. I would get the WD Blue 7200rpm 1TB drive if you can't get the black.. Its very similar in performance and cheaper too.. Have it in my desktop and is totally good!!

Also where would I notice most difference, in loading speeds, performance etc?

I guessing that fps should entirely depend on GPU and loading on RAM?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks.

That's how I do my setup but if you can get a SSD I would go SSD.

Green WD are for archive mostly not running programs is what they are best suited for.

Go WD Blue if Black cost to much but Blue you can get pretty big and still run good.

Not bad but the GPU will be bottle neck but if your board is older generations you will also have bottle neck there as well.

Look for GTX1060 6G or higher if you plan to Assassin's Creed this will push your system.

I have a Dell XPS 8900 stock board.
It has 2xPCI x16 but only 1 can be used for GPU.

    Am looking into 1060 6GB.

Hope the prices of 1070 come down but reasonably 1060 is what I would be able to afford.

    :)

I would go with WD black over Green. Green is ok but the black is designed to run much better.

Just looked into hard drives. Seems like WD has replaced Green with Blue. Had no idea.

    Also now blue 1Tb $49 for 7200rpm.
    Black 1Tb $72.

So is blue like same as black for 1Tb?

For the 1TB version, yes... The Blue 7200rpm version is really good! Just make sure you look for the 7200rpm version of Blue when buying!

There's a slight difference to be had with the WD Green. On the desktop I remember with the older Greens they dropped to 5400 rpm and tended to spin up to 7200 rpm.

You may want to consider the 7200 rpm Blue. Research the model well, as WD merged Blue and Green. The good WD Blue is almost as fast as Black, but cheaper.

None of them compares though to an SSD.

    Thanks guys.
I am going to get both Blue and Black 1 TB 7200 rpm and run some test.
Will get back to u guys after that.

Also should I install Steam and EA Origins on SSD where OS is installed or should I install both of them on 7200 rpm drive??

    Thanks

    500GB.
Out of while around 200GB is only available.
You have steam on SSD and games on both, is any particular reason u went that route?

    Thanks

I run Blue 1TB drives in my desktop (where most of my games are installed) and on my brother's and sister's desktops (it's their only drive). Works just fine for gaming.

Steam is not letting me install games on D drive for some reason. It's only letting me install on C as steam itself is installed on C.

You need to create a new library first. Go into Steam settings/downloads and click on Steam Library Folders, then Add Library Folder. Make a new directory on your D: drive, then next time you need to install a game, it should give you the option to select where you want it to go.

You can also move existing installs if you copy the folder structure (including game files), and then tell Steam to delete local files. Then "install" them again, but that dialog will let you navigate to the new file location
