So........Im going to be honest here, Im new so forgive me if i screw up or whatnot on here LOL.
Okay so heres my situation......Ive had this laptop (The gateway mentioned in tittle) For about a year now........Ive enjoyed it quite a bit....eer...But im finding this issue of the Frames in games not being constant and having to settle for okay FPS i suppose. I purchased this laptop due to good feed back but im finding......Maybe i should just get rid of it and purchase a desktop like ive been looking at......Or install a new CPU. Now the CPU idea seems great to me but my only problem is i dont want to be stuck with the FPS stutter issue ive been dealing with for god knows how long now LOL.
Now another thing to mention is in the VERY near future im going to purchase Diablo 3 and REALLY want to purchase Battlefield 3.......But im SERIOUSLY doubting this laptops capabilities. Ive already found a desktop within GREAT price range for me that can handle these for sure, But of course EVERYONE is tight on money in this economy ATM.
So let me get down to the big question here........Would it be worth my money and while to just install a much faster/better CPU or splurge and buy this sucker??? - iBUYPOWER GAMER POWER TG500 Gaming PC - AMD FX-4100 3.6GHz, 8GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce GT 520, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit at TigerDirect.com

You have to ask do you want portable laptop or no? Also what is your current ram status did you upgrade the ram? You can check on here for the latest version of intel cpu you can use for your laptop and check with ebay and see how much it will be to upgrade that cpu. But also you might want to dust out your laptop cpu and gpu and see if the cleaning out doesn't help keep heat down and improve game play. Also what game are you referring to that is keeping your fps down? Knowing that might help other give you advice what to do to improve game play and figure what might be going on with your system. Also what are your graphic setting when you play the game? And are you sure your A/V or Firewall isn't causing the loss in fps game play and are you talking about online gaming or standalone gameing when mentioning the loss of fps? We need some more details to know how your rig is setup to know what your system it doing.

Chances are there is some software or driver issue reducing you FPS.
The best option is to reformat your HDD with a fresh install of Windows 7. Then reevaluate whether or not you're satisfied. -
There are 2 versions of the P7805. he first has the intended screen resolution of 1440x900 the other has the 1920x1200 screen that was installed. The later one was done in error and while is the prefered desktop screen it can hamper games. You have to look at what your games are being played at in the settings and resolution.
The original 9800m can play most games even at the 1440x900 but at 1920x1200 it is severly stressed. Newer games may need the resolution lowered from even 1400x900 and played with less eye candy. You are playing on a few generations old video card and the mobile version at that.
Now if you can do a desktop you are bound to get better frame rates and GPU upgradability for the future. While a CPU upgrade may help you are still extremely limited by the laptops GPU. There is little that can be done here other than get a P79xx board and then you only upgrade to a 260m GTX. -
That desktop from tigerdirect is not going to play BF3. It has a GT 520.
Also, I have the 1440x900 screen and my 9800m GTS is still pretty good. The only game I have had to go low on was Crysis and that too at the very end because of some bug on that aircraft carrier. Other than that, most were playable in high until recently when I had to switch to medium for titles like Skyrim. -
That desktop from tiger direct badly needs an upgraded graphics card but will otherwise do exactly what you need it to. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150573 is a great deal on an upgraded graphics card that will pull off those new games that you want to play
Edit: you may also need to upgrade your power supply on that but it should work with the new graphics card as well

Thanks for the input guys! Appreciate it!
niffcreature - The problem isnt drivers, I update ALL that stuff constantly LOL.
Okay so my copy of the laptop is the 1440X900........Games wise all i play is Team Fortress 2, Diablo 3 soon, WOW, Left for dead 2 and warhammer 40k 2.
Now some of these work great no hitches n such but some are just weird i suppose..........For the longest time i had this weird hiccup with warhammer where whenever there was a fight on the screen the fps chugged to about 4fps constant......As for wow i can play on med/high settings but not on a reliable stable number, whenever more than 3 people start casting or being active on my screen the FPS shoots from 60 to like 20 or 14 and hiccups here n there........As a matter of fact with testing just recently ive found that sometimes in a big crowd of active people with not much environment showing i can get 40 frames........Yet with a open field and people wacking eachother i chug........I just want this thing to pump out stable numbers and stop shooting all over the place.
Ive found another desktop that just like the one i posted only difference is it has a AMD HD 6670.......Ive had lots of friends tell me go with that one instead hands down.....Matter of fact its just about the same price really.
In anycase though anymore thoughts would be appreciated, And i thank you guys for trying to help me!
