    Hi,

I have a Gateway NV78 laptop with 4 GB ram. I'd like to upgrade the ram to 8 GB. The manufacturer limits this machine to 4 GB max. I'm wondering why I can't. Will it not physically fit or what?

    Thanx for your help

It will fit and work fine, pretty sure I've run it before, just have to get 2x 4gb modules.

In general pm45 laptops say they only support 4gb and can actually support 8gb+

Got my 8 GB ram module kit yesterday and installed in my NV78 notebook. The bios sees 8 GB of memory but my laptop runs slow as molasses in winter time. Replaced original modules and it's back to normal operation. Looks like Gateway is right about this model maxing out at 4 GB of ram.
