I think it's time to give my laptop a little upgrade. Is anyone familiar with the Gateway NX series notebooks? Can their CPUs be upgraded? Everything I can find, specs wise, would lead me to believe I can upgrade my NX560X to a T2600 or T2700. The Core 2 Duo CPUs require a different chipset than the Core Duos, correct? Upgrading to a Core 2 Duo would be even better, but I doubt it's possible.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

On the contrary, the 945 chipset(s) can support all Socket M processors as long as your BIOS also supports 'em (which it probably does). You can use a T7200, T7400, T7600, if you so desire. The T2600 and T2700 will work as well.

The core duo T2600/T2700 will not be much of an upgrade. The core 2 duo processors for socket M, are 25-30% faster per Mhz clock speed.
Thus a T5200 will be about the same speed as the T2600.

I would recommend looking for the core 2 duo T5300, T5500, or T7200, they are great bang for the buck processors.

I do not think its even worth while to upgrade to another core duo, so look for a core 2 duo for your system.

K-TRON & Commander Wolf -- I probably shouldn't reply to such old threads but just wanted to say thank you for the info. I'm going to look into the core 2 duos. I still need to look and see if my CPU is upgradeable, hopefully it's not soldered in!

Commander Wolf mentioned about my BIOS supporting the Core 2 Duos. I'm trying to find out if my BIOS will, but all I can find in the BIOS change notes are the following:
Support Merom Lite CPU Microcode M21066114.
Implement Merom L2 Stepping Microcode M206F251.TXT.
Support Merom B2 Stepping Microcode M206F648.TXT.
Support Merom B1 Stepping Microcode M206F536.TXT.
Support Merom B0 Stepping Microcode MF56F426.TXT.
    Support Merom B0 Stepping CPU.

Is there any way to tell from this whether the T7200, T7400 and T7600 would be supported?

Just make sure the FSB's match, then past that you should be ok. On a past Acer I had, I upgraded a T2060 @FSB533 to a Core 2 Duo T5500 @FSB667. The max supported FSB on the i943GML is 667mhz, so...
