So I've had this notebook since January and it is starting to frustrate me a little.
Recently folders that i have recently added become corrupt and unusable. I can't view, move, or delete them. I tried running CHKDSK and it showed alot of corrupt things but didn't fix anything. Then I tried the error checking at start up which did nothing. I tried the registry cleaner to see if that would help and nothing. At this point I am wondering if the Hard drive is just ****ty. I am wanting to format the whole hard drive and reinstalling Vista clean (wishing I had XP). DO you think that will help or should I just get a new hard drive? The hard drive in it now is the default it came with - WDC WD2500BEVS-22USTO
NTFS File system 221 GB capacity. On a side note, Vista keeps telling me my windows indexer is not working and I have had some blue screens on start ups for no reason.

The P6831FX is a new laptop, just call up Gateway and you should be able to get a new replacement harddrive.

Download hdtune, and go into the health tab. If anything is highlighted in yellow or red, it is time to replace the drive. Back up your data, and see if you can get a new drive.
Hdtune also has a surface scanner for the harddrive, so you can see what kind of damage the harddrive has endured.

i get this problem with my 6860fx once in a while as well, i run chkdsk /f to correct the errors. i ran a SMART scan from the WD diagnostic and it showed it as OK. i think vista 64 can be the culprit.

note: youll need to run chkdsk from a preboot, use the windows vista os disk and pop it in the drive, reboot, load into the disk, select fix problems, dos prompt, switch to drive c, unmount the disk - select yes, chkdsk /f, youre good to go.
