I have a Gateway 450SX4 here that won't charge the battery. I am 99% certain that the battery is a-okay, and I know the power charger that came with the computer IS NOT the original power charger (it's for another gateway)... it's my dad's old laptop and along the lines he got a new charger.
Anyways, the back of the laptop says:
input:19v 4.2A
For use with SA80T-3115 or ADP-80CB
And the back of the power adapter says:
DC output: 19V 2.64A
The laptop runs fine with the power charger hooked up, but it doesn't charge the battery, no matter if it's off or on or what. There are Ebay power chargers (on a budget here) for 20 or so bucks that say they support the 450SX4 (and they say that they replace the SA80T-3115, the charger that the back of the laptop says to use), but the output is 4.74A... higher than what the laptop says.
Any suggestions on what to do/buy?

The power adaptor you are using is not capable of supplying enough current to charge your battery. I am surprised that the power supply you are using can even power your system up and run without stability issues. You will need to buy a replacement power adaptor so that your system can get enough power to run itself and than charge the battery.

2.64A is very low. It needs at least 3.16A

???
Where did you get 3.16Amps from.
If the power brick is dead, you should just get a new one which can supply enough power to run your laptop. You should be able to get a new power brick for less than $50.
