hello, i just bought this laptop well aware that everything was superb in the laptop, except the processor...a T5450 which is a intel core 2 duo clocked at 1.66ghz....
so before i went out and bought it today, i read on several places(including these forums) that this lappys processor is easily upgradeable, i know where the socket is...but can anybody whos already accomplished this upgrade let me know step by step how its done?

also, which processor is recommended currently...or is there some processor i should be waiting around for, something i heard about peryn CPUs, are they quad core or something? any suggestions will be appreciated.

Get the T9300, best bang for the buck IMO. Link

As for an instructional guide, either try Gateway's website and if they don't have a guide of some sort then try Google perhaps.

Also the CPU is very prominent when you open up the back. It either gently pulls out (PGA) or it does not (BGA) if it does not easily pull out it likely is not upgradeable. You should be cautious at this point if you have to ask these kind of questions.

It is 100% upgradeable so you can ignore the above post. People have upgraded to the t7700,7500 so far, testing with a t9300 should be available this time next week.

i am positive it is upgradeable, i viewed an entire thread about people discussing my certain brand of laptop, and it is quite easily upgradeable.

Most bang for the buck...350 for the t9300, its kinda steep dontcha think?...when do u think this price will start dipping?

Nice there was a second part to post that you either ignored or did not comprehend! Go ahead let your kids play with matches!

Edit: But by all means do it if you feel comfortable I do not want to discourage. Just asking for a manual seems like maybe you should pull back. Just a friendly opinion, nothing more.

i understand your concern, although ive installed CPUs into desktops, so i guess i was just wondering if it was drastically different with laptops or not.

It's no different at all really. Again you can just ignore snakeofsolid, you should post any more questions you have, in the link in my sig. Better to get upgrade advice for a specific laptop in a thread thats all about it and like I said in the next week there will be t9300 testing for this exact laptop.
