    Hi,

I'm in singapore at the moment, and looking to buy thermal paste. I havent been keeping up to date with the latest stuff, but last time i was shopping for thermal paste arctic silver 5 was the standard.

From what i've read, arctic cooling's new MX-3 seems to be the best one now, but i cant find any of these thermal pastes in singapore. Almost everywhere just sells the zalmann, cooler master 400, and normal sillicon based stuff.

i noticed a brand i wasnt familliar with, "Gelid", some websites report it matching the performance of the MX-3, but i'm not really convinced.

does anyone here have first hand experience using Gelid Extreme?

    thanks in advance :)

I use it and it is the one of the best thermal pastes you can buy :)

some people think that artic silver 5 or some others are better, but in my opinion gelid is the best.it also had won some awards.(i dont remember)

artic silver 5 and gelid extreme are almost very close, since i am not a artic 5 user,i cant know which one is really better, but as i said go for the gelid.(in my opinion)if artic silver 5 is better than gelid extreme,it would only matter 1C,impossible to matter more than 1,5C

well the reviews/benchmarks seem to suggest gelid extreme matches the MX-3 or almost matches it. since MX-3 is better than AS5, i think its safe to assume that the gelid paste is better than AS5.

however, what i'm wondering is how it will perform in the long run, as in, after it settles, will it degrade, etc.

it will be just fine.you don't need to worry about it.if you don't like it,you can still buy a mx-3.be optimistic :D

    it wont matter alot,as i said.just 1 or 1.5C.

it is not always good to thrust reviews.you should be stuck on a "small" thing.it will really matter less.

Honestly, most of the reviewed pastes are good and won't make a difference overall. I've used AS5, IC Diamond 7, and a few others and temps are maybe 1-2 deg C different (given proper application) but this is under standard deviation of temperatures, so there is basically no difference. My recommendation is just get the cheaper one btw whichever ones you're looking at (CM, Geil, Gelid, Tuniq, Noctua, OCZ, etc.)

imo get mx-2. best price/performance ever and non conductive and it's easy to spread around the cpu. if you want something better that gives you like -0.1ÂșC difference just get mx-3 for 15$ more. not worth it.
