    Hi all

This thread is for any suggestions to cool your laptop. Using harddrive coolers (with USB, without, which is the best, which you prefer, have experience of), software or perhaps even unscrewing and removing some bits from your laptop (I've seen some people just taking out small bits for better ventilation, but only on certain laptops). I've seen some "stickers"/soft material that fits perfect on the bottom of your laptop where the GPU or CPU are located.

    Any more suggestions?

Undervolting - this is a common way to do it. Research on the forums, or through your favorite search engine. There are a lot of threads on this topic.

    Here's another one.
I did several things to my laptop to keep it cool:
-Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound on CPU
    -Undervolted CPU
    -Cooling pad (Spire Pacific Breeze)

...and my laptop still runs rather warm.

does a laptop REALLY get dangerously warm. Do the new Core Duo CPUs dissapate more heat than older mobile CPUs such as Pentium III?

I leave my laptop on around 8 hours a day, and I don't worry about overheating and never ever ran into any issues. Looks like my Fan does a great job..

There are alot of programs out there to help you control your fan speeds, I have an inspiron that is supported bby I8kfangui so I use that (it works great). There are others but the only other noteable one is speedfan. You can setup the fans to come on at different speeds once certain parts of your laptop get to a certain temp, at least with I8kfangui you can, I'm not sure about what speedfan can do (never really spent much time fooling with it).

Right now, i am underclocking my CPU to 50%. It ran fine until I installed 512 ram + my original 256. I am using an X700 Compaq Presario V4000t.

At this moment, my "Sport heros, feats, and facts" binder is keeping it slightly cooler.

I suggest propping a book up, like i did, to keep the air flow to the fan better.
