what are the general price ranges for laptop batteries, ram, hard drives, and any other 'replaceable' parts? (Tell the dollar unit, Canadian for example)

i checked out google, but for things like that when you dont know if your looking for DDR ram or DDR2 ram you cant really figure out a general price range so i dont know if you guys will be able to either, just thought id ask. Just for the record im looking for these parts because i want to see if when you buy your laptop, if its cheaper to buy a barebone and customize it yourself, or if i should buy one with everything already installed.

It's hard to see, you'll have to do the research yourself, just look around at every online store, bookmark, and compare. Time consuming but it could be worth the few bucks you may save.

Take a look at www.newegg.com...I use them as the gold standard when it comes to pricing.

It really depends on the system you're looking to buy, what parts you want to install, and where you're looking to buy from.

When I compared, I found that the difference was often about $100-150 or so. But there are those who can save up to $400 or more by assembling their own notebooks, so it depends on the situation.

One more factor to consider is the comprehensive warranty that you will give up by assembling your own notebook. If you build your own, you will have to deal with half a dozen seperate warranties if something fails.

thanks, there is where the problem comes in i guess. I would rather have to deal with one warranty than 10, so i think ill stick with buying it all at once.
