My fan is broken, and instead of selling me just the fan, Fujitsu is making me send in the laptop and charging me $230 + plus tax to have it replaced.
I'm a college student so I already don't have the money. Do any of you guys know if I can buy a generic/universal fan that I can replace with the broken one? I'm on campus, so if I'm able to buy a fan (which I hear is usually under $50) the campus IT support will replace it for free, no charge. I would much rather do that than sending in my laptop and waiting an LONGER period of time and pay A LOT more money.
Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should be able to find a fan on the Internet, however, its diffiult to find these fans sometimes. Fans are normally built by the manufacturer, so thats the reason they are difficult to find. Other places that may have them are ebay, but again, its difficult to find. I agree, though, that paying the $230that Fujitsu wants is quite expensive, and personally, I wouldn't take that step.

Sometimes fans are standard size though... spend some time with google, see if you can find the type/size of fan in that model, or see if you can take it apart and find it yourself. eBay is a great place to find bits and parts of laptops.

and sometimes there is just lots of dirt and gook inside...take it apart and clean it with compressed air and clean the fan blades. It might be a case of the fan just not working efficently anymore.
I googled "fujitsu laptop parts" and while I found oodles of parts sites there does seem to be not many fans listed...weird...I would they are not part of the motherboard or something. Otherwise there has to be a source for them...you could laways call one of the parts suppliers and ask if they can find one for you. Just do NOT tell them the Fujitsu price or I guarantee your fan will cost $70 instead of $20...
