I was wondering if there's any software in which I can set which speed my HDD should spin at ?

I've currently have a Seagate 200 GB 7200.2 HDD and wondered if I could get it to spin slower in order to get it more silent and more battery friendly ?

    Regards,

    Not possible.
You'll be better off upgrading to a quiet 320GB 5400RPM HDD.

andy, I think it is possible.
If you have a seagate harddrive, download seatools from seagates website.
There is a setting for noise. Set the drive to quiet mode. This actually decreases spindle rpm of the drive by a small amount, which causes less noise. It decreases performance but it may be what you are looking for.

If you want more battery life, you should check out undervolting, you can add 20 or more minutes of life to your battery.
Dropping the rpm of your harddrive may give you 1 minute more of battery life, but it will be too negligable to notice.

I believe you are referring to the AAM value. It makes the drive a little bit quiet, hence sacrificing a bit of access time.
Most drives already have it at the lowest value (128).
It can also be edited through HD Tune and NHC.
