it comes with a 1366x768 screen and I'm buying the laptop for a cheap enough price that I'm hoping to upgrade the screen to at least 1600x900... is it possible?

Not particularly. I did a couple of tests with some laptops at work.
Upgrading the LCD was not possible. I am not sure if there was incompatibility with the Inverter/ccfl or with the laptop sending out the display signal. Either way there was no display at all.

Well besides the question if it's possible there's also the question if 13.3" 1600x900 screens exist.

Because the only 13" I know that uses such a screen is 13.1" (Sony Z).
