    Getting an SSD, how to copy windows ?

    Hi,

    Have a 250gb hdd with 2 partitions of 50% each.

    SSD will be 128gb so looking at copying partition 1 to the SSD.

    What software can do this as the new disk is different size to the old.

    I'd recommend not copying. I would back up your data, and then reinstall clean on the new SSD. What OS are you running? There's a thread here that has links to legitimate Windows 7 downloads and instructions on how to reinstall after backing up the activation. This will allow Windows to configure itself best to use the SSD, instead of copying the filesystem and configuration from the previous drive to the SSD.

    I have W7HP on an acer 1810, could do a fresh install however I have the whole drivers for screen brightness and so on to think about.

    Agreed with Pitabred, better do a clean install.

    Drivers for brightness and other function keys are on Acer.com

    fair enough, will go down the fresh install route

    on another note does anyone know how i reset the drive in future when performance slows, drive lacks trim.

    u can try tony trim.. just google it or search on the forums here about it... u won't have to reset or anything.
