Hi. I bought a Gigabyte Q2556 a few days ago and the only problem I have is the display resolution. The current resolution is 1366x768 and it is not very good and I am looking for a replacement model to change it to Full HD 1920x1080. In the Gigabyte website there is an ""optional Full HD"" display mentioned, but I could not find it anywhere.

I found a seller in my country and they sell it for $174. Here is the link : Gigabyte Q2556N Replacement Laptop LCD Screen Panel 1920 x 1080, AU$174.99, Free shipping, 2 Years Warranty
but I am not sure if it is going to work for me.

I contacted the seller and their answer was: ""(Hi, I don't think you can replace it with Full HD because your video board doesn't read Full HD Anyway you can order it under you responsibility. ))"". I checked my graphics card and it support the Full HD display.

Also, in their website it says: """Gigabyte Q2556N Replacement Laptop LCD Screen Panel 1920 x 1080""".

I also contacted the Gigabyte and they told me I cannot change the display. But there is an optional mentioned in their website. I opened the screen cover and it is replaceable.

The display's model is : auo b156xtn03.4 and I am looking for a replacement to change it to Full HD display.

I really appreciate it if you can help me.

If it is offered with a Full HD display, then likely you can upgrade it, but proceed at your own risk. Some manufacturers if you order with the 720p screen, they only give you a 30 pin LVDS connector. Also some manufacturers for certain lower models, could give you the 30 pin connector on the motherboard making it impossible to upgrade your display to full HD. YMMV

    Thank you for the help.

The current display is AU OPTRONICS / the model is: AUO B156XTN03.4. I checked the model and it seems to be a 40 pin LCD. But I am still not sure.

As I explained before, the gigabyte told me that I cannot change the display. But then I find the seller that is selling the """Gigabyte Q2556N Replacement Laptop LCD Screen Panel 1920 x 1080""".

Now I am confused and do not know what to do?

I tried to ask the seller for the model number of the """Gigabyte Q2556N Replacement Laptop LCD Screen Panel 1920 x 1080""" but he refused to tell me.

Now, I have no idea what to do. If I buy the """Gigabyte Q2556N Replacement Laptop LCD Screen Panel 1920 x 1080""", I have to pay $175 and I will lose the money if it does not work.

    ????

Any OEM will tell you the screen cannot be changed, that's standard practice (they don't condone upgrades that are not approved). The problem with some screen sellers is they sell generic LCD's. The 40 pin LVDS connector can hook into a bajillion different screens, they sometimes can't give you a part number directly because they carry maybe 20-30 different SKUs for an certain product.

I have no idea also if Gigabyte whitelist screens in their BIOS, cause Lenovo is infamous for doing that. Most manufacturers don't, but some do.

So by whitelist in their Bios, you mean they lock it or not?

And in opinion the replacement LCD will work or not? The seller will not tell me the model number or part number of the replacement LCD !!! What do I do in your opinion????

If I sell this Laptop I will go for a clevo W650SR, but the quality of sound for Gigabyte Q2556N and Clevo W650SR is the same. And I can say that almost 90% of the Gigabyte Q2556N is similar to Clevo W650SR.

I'm saying Gigabyte is new to the computer market, so I have no idea. If a higher end model offers Full HD, likely it will work, assuming its a 40 pin LVDS connector. Best way to figure out is to be the guinea pig and open up your own laptop (which you are going to have to anyway to replaced the LCD anyway), and make sure you have a 40 pin LVDS connector.

Like I said earlier, the reason why they cannot give you a part number is because the screens maybe chosen at random for an ordered SKU.

Selling it is up to you, I don't know what the used computer market is like in Australia.

Thanks. It is a little risky for me to do it. Because I do not have any kind of experience in changing Laptop's LCD and I have no idea about it. I did some research and watch some video on youtube about changing a Laptop's LCD.

I only used the Laptop for 1 day and when I saw the resolution, I did not like it. At the moment I have a HP Envy 14 with the resolution of 1600x900 and I love it but it is a little old ( Intel i5; 1st generation). The quality is the best I have ever seen in my opinion.

Now I am thinking what to do??!!??!!

I found that the LCD that I have is a LED-Backlit and it is a 40 pin connector. My other problem is the cable and the BIOS. Because I read somewhere that sometimes the manufacture blocked their bios for a certain resolution???!!! Now, I am still not sure what to do?
