After several months of reading through this site and playing around with tons of configurations im quite close to actually buying my laptop. But what I'm now wondering is...is it worth the $134.00 to get the 1705 with Truelife display? 90% of its use is going to be for gaming, and I am not worried about glare, that just seems like a big chunk of money, and I'd like opinions on it. Thanks

Well most people like the glossy screens for gaming/movies specifically.

I had an e1705 glossy and it was nice. I now have a 15.4" matte screen and personally like the no glare. But you will find arguments from both sides.

If you don't feel like paying the $134, then don't. Also consider it's not just for the glossy surface you'll be paying for--it's also the higher resolution.

That's your biggest decision--WSXGA or WUXGA.

If you like clearer colors and higher contrast, glossy is the way to go. If you're not worried about glare, then go with the glossy.

I think it makes it all look better, and since a computer is worthless (to me) without a display, it's worth the extra cost. Its one of the few upgrades that you'll actually notice.

the other thing to remember about glossy is that if you're sensitive to light, like i am, it can give you a headache from the increased brightness and glare. $134 sounds like alot of money to me for a "nonessential" feature, but if you can afford it and it's your preference, go for it.

I concur with this and the previous period. In fact just this week at work I had my CRT replaced by an LCD screen because I was getting headaches.
