I've been a gamer on three desktops for the last 10 years...I am going mobile now because the technology is finally there and I am on the go a lot more.
I have some internal sata drives I would like to clone but I have never had to migrate data that much? My laptop I am getting has an esata/usb 3.0 port...do I just disconnect the sata plugs from my motherboard on the desktop and plug them into that port? Should I use one of those crossover ethernet cables and just network them... I feel like I should know how to do this but I have just never needed to.

I've never tried networking them since I don't have a crossover cable, but I believe that's the most convenient way to transfer all your stuff. -
what do you mean crossover Ethernet cables? i just recently transferred all my data from desktop to laptop, all i did was make a shared folder and use a normal Ethernet cord, everything else just popped up, transfer speeds were nice at 25mb/s (different file types)

Modern gigabit ethernet cards don't need crossover cables anymore, they detect the need and adapt automatically. It was necessary when both ends were 100mbit.
Going mobile for the first time, best way to migrate data...
