    I have a coupla cheapies. Depends on what you're going to use one for.

    To archive a day's business anything will do, but for running one for a good while IME, they either need cooling or some kind of ventilation.

    Some USB ext. hdds are warrantied only 6 months. ;/

    i will only be using to store data, wont be running games or anything off from it, just occosianol transferring of data sometimes maybe large ammounts.

    anyone know where or have any promotional codes or coupons for newegg?

    I notice the enclosure uses the Prolific PL-3507 USB/IEEE1394 bridge chip. I had an enclosure with this chipset at work last year which would regularly corrupt itself, until I applied the latest firmware from Prolific's download page.

    The Seagate drive should be fine, although I also like the Western Digital drives.

    I'd sorta like to see what the heck chip mine uses, just for the heck of it. The enclosure I have get's kerfollixed occasionally on my W98SE machine. eesh.
