im looking for one that has atleast 750gigs+ but is relatively small, (in size: something that basically can fit in ones hand length wise.) basically i need a portable one, not one of the bigger ones, since i do alot of traveling. im planning on getting an SSD for the AW, but need something to hold all of my files. any suggestions to what brand..? or what are the best externals out there..?

If you want portable, you want a drive based off of 2.5" laptop hard drives (and not 3.5" desktop hard drives).

The external drives themselves are commodities. They all do the job equally well, and there really isn't much difference between one brand or another. Everyone can come in here with stories about how brand XYZ always fails for them, or brand ABC was always reliable for them. But in reality, there really isn't a difference between one brand or another. All of those stories are anecdotal, and not hard data and facts.

The area where there is a significant difference between drive brands is warranty and support. And in this area, I'd go with Western Digital. Nice, long warranties on their products, and they offer advance-ship replacements if you do need to RMA the drive.

Western Digital Passports are their product line of 2.5" drives. Which one you buy depends on how much capacity you want, and how much you want to spend.
    500GB: $79 USD
    750GB: $90 USD
    1.0TB: $110 USD
