    Hey guys

I just got a free SSD (64gb) from my dad's work. I have my own copy of windows. I will mainly use games I play a lot on there plus the OS on the SSD. Is it easy to install and set up drivers and what not?

I have several external hard drives and stuff so I can properly put the curren 1tb hard drive on a external case and use it to USB 3.0z

Can games still run fast if I play them through my external. I plan to carry it with my everywhere. I am mostly be doing schoolwork on the y580 and diablo 3, sc2, wow, and some guild wars 2 here and there. Also CS:s. Does the USB 3.0 work well with games on an external hard drive?

How do I install he SSD it's not mSata? Also is t worth it for the speed and for stuff I use often? I was getting 1-1.5 min boot time on the 1tb which is 5400 rpm. What time should I look for with the new SSD? Also do I have to do a fresh install of windows (I can it's no problem), if there is a way to cop the windows to the SSD before install that would be cool. What way do recommend? I hardly have anything on it anyway since I got it like 2 months ago.

    Thanks!

Depends on the SSD? You can use recovery discs on an SSD, almost all Windows 7 ones should automatically align the SSD. 1-1.5 minutes for a usable desktop is a longtime for a mechanical drive, my older HM160HC in my D600 with a clean XP install nets me a usable desktop in ~45 seconds.

    Please don't double post.

If you can manage with only 64gb of space, then go for it, it will be way faster. And yeah, get an external enclosure for that 1TB hd.

Yea it's a 5400rpm, it was quite slow. But my main concern is that if I have my more larger games on a good external drive at USB 3.0 will I notice a huge decrease in performance in gaming? Compared to having it connected with SATA. The SSD IS only 64gb so only 1-2 games maybe.

Really sorry for double posting I just got so excited since its my first SSD. Yea I'm Definitley going to install it then. I don't use major programs in school.

Edit: crap didn't realize what I just did, sorry again!

USB 3.0 will be OK, make sure the external enclosure is USB 3.0 also. USB 2.0 will be super slow, but 3.0 should be just fine.

It should be okay as long as it always mounts with the same drive letter in windows. Generally on the desktop I use has a few raptors which I feel are subpar to a true SSD. Sure large continously files are awesome but thats it.

Just make sure your external on USB 3.0 always mounts as a expected drive for your games and you're be fine.

If you set it to a specific drive letter it will stay as that letter.

If you're going to mount it to a drive letter, use A or B, Windows doesn't assign anything to either of those ever by default (unless you actually still use floppies :p)

It's been know to happen, but it's rather uncommon now.

It's definitely worth the upgrade if you're sure that everything you want on there will fit on with only 64GB of space.
