I have read the GPU list, and also some threads about this card.
It seems that, since it's 64-bit, it can only use 256 mb of the video memory effectively. Notebook Check states that it's a low-range card, and gives benchmarks that aren't really much better than the HD3470.
I'm considering buying Asus PRO61SL-6X095C, which has this card, or Acer Extensa 5630G, which has the HD3470 but is about 200$ cheaper in my country.
Will I see a considerable increase in performance with the HD4750, that justifies the added 200$?

128MB of memory would be more than enough for a 64-bit card. If that is the only difference for $200, I don't think it's worth it. How much do you game? If you game, consider looking at other alternatives with at least a 128-bit bus.

HD 4570 scores about 4100-4300 in 3dMark06.
HD 3470 scores about 2200. -
I game. But I don't "GAME". I want to be able to play Oblivion at higher settings (but with 1280x800 resolution), but I'm in no way interested of playing Crysis at medium/high or something like that.
Phil: Thanks. It does seem that the HD 4750 is considerably faster than HD 3470. Though maybe the 64 bits is more of a problem than speed? -
Here you can see how it performs:

I have spoken to quite a few Dell 1555 owners and they all confirm the same performance.
PS. it's 4570, not 4750 -
Ha! I've been browsing laptops all day, so the model numbers kind of get mixed up.
Nice help. Now I can decide pretty well between the two systems. -
Asus SL series have Sis chipset though. I prefer Intel chipsets by far.
-
While both have 64-bit buses, the HD 4570 has double the steam processors that the HD 3470 has, hence why it is better. For your specific game, you will have to look at benchmarks to see how well each compare at that resolution. If the HD 3470 is sufficient, then you can save $200, if not then go with the HD 4570...

The 4750HD you spoke in the beginning is a 128bit card with fater GDDR5 memory, rivaling the 4850HD with GDDR3 and 256bit bus.
Not to be confused with the lower 4570HD! Those are completely different architectures and GPUs. -

Those are desktop parts.

It was somewhat OT, my apologies. The child in my wanted to prove you wrong with the statement:
-
Yeah, I should have added for notebooks.

I just installed and ran Crysis on my Studio 15 with the ATi 4570 256MB version...it runs quite nicely at 720p with all settings on Medium.
-
Great to hear that!!
This means that the 4570HD is a very capable GPU for the low/mid range market.
