Hi, i want to buy a Sony notebook, i find two model that is suitable for me and i want to chooser one of them, i want to know which graphic is better? (i'm an electronic engineering and i don't want to play game with my notebook).

model1 : VGN-SR45G/B/N with Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelelerator 4500MHD
    complete specifications: http://www.sony-mea.com/product/vgn-sr45g

    model2 : VGN-CS36GJ with NVIDIA Geforce 9300 GS
    complete specifications: http://www.sony-mea.com/product/vgn-cs36gj

i prefer VGN-SR45G because of lower weight, lower size, 13.3" LED, 32 bit windows (because i have a lot of expensive electronic software that works with 32 bit windows) and i will change the RAM up to 4G but my problem is about graphic, do you think this graphic is good or not?

the geforce 9300gs is much better than the 4500MHD, but if you dont play games there is no point getting it, the 4500MHD will run cooler and consume less power.

there is no point upgrading to 4gb ram if you are going to use 32 bit windows, because it wont be able to use more than 3gb of the ram.

alternatively, you can use windows 7 professional or ultimate edition, and use the Windows XP mode that comes with it to run your legacy software

The Intel GMA 4500mhd is great if you dont play games.
Just remember that it leeches ram from the system so getting 64 bit windows and 4gb ram is recommended.

And you need to have a notebook that support Intel V/t for XP Mode.

64Bit Windows - hmm, not necessarily - on a 32Bit System you still get your 3GB, and if you might not get much more on a 64Bit system if your graphics card eats it up...

Also, if he has expensive software that is 32Bit - it may work, it may not.
While generally most 32Bit software should run on 64Bit there is no guarantee it will.

Virtualization is a weak point with Vaios... they only grudgingly allowed it on some recent Win7 models (officially) - so check with the Sony forum if the SR did get virtualization just to make sure.

Hi, please can you not cross post, your other post has been deleted.
There has been a lot of complaints about the Vaio CS line so i wouldn't recommend buying it.
I guess though most people come online to complain about something, still there has been an awful lot of complaints about the fan.
You might be ok but there is a probablity that your laptop could have fan issues or develop this problem in the future.
Do some research on it if you haven't.
The Vaio CW is a better model to go for.

I'd say go for the SR. As a student whom carries around a laptop a lot, you won't regret the getting a light laptop.

yes, i know that the cs series will have a problem with their fans, but they have 3 years guarantee and i can change the fan, i prefer to have light laptop because i'm an electronic engineering and also the student of master of science. CS36GJ is suitable for me in price, SR45 is more expensive but it is ok for me, but it hasn't a good graphic card, SR46 is expensive for me.
i also want to know that can i install windows xp and windows7 on SR45 (because of the special graphic 4500MHD)?

the 4500 isn't a special graphics card, its a normal mobile card.

You can run Win7 easily :) it should come with Win7

    XP - what for?

Yes you can install Windows XP on the SR; I don't see why you wouldn't be able to.
