I have an old - 2003 Inspiron 8600 with the NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5650 graphics card that is on its way out. I'm holding out purchasing a new laptop until Nehalam is rolled out next year and need a stopgap replacement graphics card.

I'm not sure what is compatible and would be the best purchase. I really just need to extend the life of this 8600 another 6 months or so.

    Thanks for any help.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I'm 99% sure you can't upgrade it. Based on that it's: a) old, and b) likely integrated.***Please remember to read stickies, they're there for a reason*** Basically the only thing you can do is be very gentle with it (no gaming) and hope that it lasts. However, you could always purchase a laptop now since Nehalem has proven to be only a minor improvement in single threaded performance (though much better in multi-threaded apps). Nehalem

the inspiron 8600 is only compatible with the fx5650 and the nvidia go 4200.
The 8600 was the centrino version of my 8500, so the same upgradeability should apply. I love the 8500 it is still running strong since the day I bought it. Got a new harddrive for it yesterday to speed things up, and now with 52mb/sec from the new harddrive, my laptop now runs faster than most of my other laptops less than a year old.
