This is my first post here and unfortunately it has to do with a problem. My LCD screen in my Compaq v2030us I had for almost 2 years has developed vertical greenish stripe of about 1.5" slightly to the right from the center about a week ago. It mostly shows itself when playing movies or on top of images and appears very strongly over certain colours ie flesh.

If I apply pressure at the top of the casing, I can have it dissapear but it's getting harder and harder to do so I think it will become permanent very soon. I was thinking it could be cable connection problem, so I am going to take it apart and see if reseating the connections and cleaning them with contact spray would do anything. Any other suggestions you guys have?

I'll post some pics later so it's easier to see what I'm talking about.

Sounds like a dodgy connection in the screen assembly. I remember seeing a similar problem where someone bought a laptop with a similar iussue and intended to fix it. I believe it should be fixable by removing the screen assembly and re-doing some of the connections at the place in question, however I am no expert on the subject.

    I think there's hope though!

Um, yeah, that would be me. ;)

However, I'm far too cowardly to open up my notebook and tinker with it since I killed my Lifebook P5020D that way, so I've been tramautized by that ever since. :(

I'm busy with schoolwork right now but really want to get the Vaio TX fixed so I can dump my Compaq V3019US.

Thanks for the heads up. I hope it's only a connection problem as well because it's not worth buying another screen for this laptop. My next one will most likely be an Asus Ensemble because from the reviews I've read, those have much better built quality.

I already tried taking it apart, after removing all screws that hold the screen, the bottom part of the screen cover doesn't want to pop out easy and I am afraid using more force as it feels really flimsy and pretty sure I could break it. I will however try it again when I have some more time to fool around.

Here are the pics I promised:

As you can see, some of the colours have the green tint on them:

I'm having this exact problem with and Acer Aspire.

Only mine is of to the left. if you have th monitor set at the right angle or you hold the top just over the stripe it doesn't do it.

i've taken apart cover for the screen and poked about at the connections near the bottom but it doesn't seem to do anything.

    anyone got any other advice?

    thanks in advance!!

Ok so, i may have macgyvered this one.

Took the housing off and right behind the screen (on the back of it) at the top there's a sticky piece of plastic. took that off and i could see that the 1.5 inch part of "green stripe" was right where a connection between what I would describe as an imaging board (no expert but it had the green dotted with connections type thing of internal computer boards). when i pressed on that just where the connection was the green stripe went away. so, what would macgyver do? basically cut a piece of plastic from the liquid air cleaner straw and put where I was pushing. put the housing back on and tightened it up so the plastic would push where it needed to to make sure the green stripe didn't come back.

probably not the "right" way to fix it. but it's working....so i'm inclined to leave it until the problem comes up again.

    *crosses fingers it doesn't*

Actually that sounds pretty cool baceofhearts.
I would disassemble the screen, and reseat the connections. However, use a piece of electrical tape to hold the wires in place, so that they do not come loose again. Sometimes this band occurs when one of the many wires in the cable is not touching the port on the back of the lcd just right.

Make sure that the cables are connected properly, and then tape them down, and hopefully taht fixes your problem.

what i've done seems to be a temporary fix. gonna have to take it apart again and see what's happened.
