Let me start out saying I’m a pretty big fan of Gsync and it’s a game changer for improving the quality of gaming.
One thing I’ve noticed is most new RTX gaming laptops offer a 144Hz screen but some have Gsync ( CLEVO, Dell, Lenovo...etc) and a some don’t ( Razer, MSI, AORUS....etc) the thing is my last 2 laptops have had Gsync and it really made a pretty big difference to me but I also hear with a high refresh rate screen that has fast response times it’s not really needed to prevent or reduce screen tearing.
I have yet to try a 144Hz screen but I’m little hesitant to buy a very expensive laptop without Gsync...so my question to you people is to Gsync or not to Gsync that is the question? On a 144Hz screen.
Don’t care about battery life so take that talk and Optimus out of the equation. plus I hear there you might run into some problems with RTX laptops and Optimus but that could probably be fixed with future driver updates.
    Thanks.

Here goes my opinion on this matter. Ive had g-sync in my laptop (Clevo P775DM3-G) and bought recently (4 months ago almost) a 144hz with no g-sync. To be honest it bothered me in the first day or so.. (just the thought of it)
To be honest with you g sync feels like vertical sync but with a bit less input lag. It's nothing fancy and in the latest drivers from nvidia you can activate g sync on external monitor (search for the list of compatible free sync LCD's). My opinion is that is more of a gimmick more than anything else.

Now being g sync free in a 144hz i don't miss it at all. But that's my opinion

The majority of monitors that support FreeSync 2 (and many with FS 1) will work with NVIDIA adaptive sync. The compatibility list that's floating around online only shows what display NVIDIA has officially tested.

I’m talking more the internal laptops screens themselves and not a exterior monitor.
One thing I forgot to add on screens with no Gsync , if you activate vsync would that cap FPS to 72 on a 144Hz screen. It’s not the ideal solution but it’s a alternative that sometimes adds input lag, I think.

Vsync does sync with the maximum refresh rate on my internal 144hz LCD. Not half the refresh rate. Reset the nvidia panel to defaults before applying it and select maximum performance too.

So, on a 144Hz panel with G-Sync enabled, do I enable or not vsync from the ingame settings of any particular game?

I recently experimented with this and bought a 144hz Samsung monitor to go with my GT62VR (GTX 1070).

Couldn't stand it. Nasty tearing in Battlefield, Assassins Creed etc. Ended up bringing the monitor in to work with me and purchasing a Dell G-sync monitor for home - which has been fantastic.

The thing is, when I watch people playing games on their Razer Blades etc on YouTube, they never seen to get much tearing at all.

I wish I could experiment with a Razer Blade for a week and see how I felt about it... but at this stage I simply don't trust anything without G-sync. I think they're fine for playing games like LoL and CS:GO, but if you try to play the latest and greatest AAA, every time you jump from 120 to 80 frames it will start to look nasty. It just doesn't seem like it's worth the hassle when G-sync is an option.

Yeah I agree Gsync or go home!
Ending up buying a laptop with Gsync and 144Hz screen because of the thought of screen tearing, the people that say you don’t need Gsync with a 144Hz screen are the ones that don’t have Gsync available for the laptops they own.

What do you think of the new Gigabyte and Razer laptops with 240Hz screens but no Gsync? I’m really curious whether that would any difference...

    Sorry for the delay.
Answer is... it depends. If you're playing games like Fortnite / Overwatch / DOTA / Apex Legends, then sure, you'll probably push some mental frames and wont particularly miss G-Sync. And in those titles it honestly matters less. They are more about competitive gameplay. and less about immersion.

For single player triple A, G-Sync is almost always better.

Having said that... if you haven't had a G-Sync laptop or monitor before then it's not such a big deal. It's just frustrating to see [any] tearing when you're used to seeing none.

What'd you end up getting IKAS? When I see you post in threads, you're typically the one asking the questions I'm thinking.

What I'd do for something which looked like the Razer Blade Pro (2019), had G-sync and ran in the 45 dB range (even if it meant running the CPU at 35w to 40w ... it doesn't seem to affect FPS much anyway).

This new generation has been a real bummer. No G-Sync. Crazy loud (somehow 50 dB is now considered low?). GaMeR DeSiGnS.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on the Clevo PB71 from my local reseller (Matabox). But of course, it's the only machine out there without a review.. lol.

I got a ACER TRITON 500 on sale from MicroCenter.
144hz Gsync screen and 2080 MQ after coupons and discount was like $600 0ff MSRP and couldn’t resist, runs cool and fairly quiet but is a beast when it comes to gaming, only drawback is serviceability but with huge discount was something I can deal with, should be all set for at least 2-3 years.
Very underrated laptop with great screen and amazing performance.

After using Gsync for half a year I simply can’t go back, even in casual competitive games, it’s just too good!
