Hey guys, have just finished upgrading the gpu on my old gx700 from a 8600m gt 512mb to a 9650m gt 1G. When I reassembled the laptop after the install and tried to boot up I got no response from the display whatsoever. The hdd light comes on and fan starts up but nothing visually happens. Apart from physically changing the gpu over and reapplying thermal paste I have not done anything in preparation for the new card. I disassembled and reassembled the laptop to check weather I had reconnected everything correctly and it all seemed ok. Any help to get me up and running would be great.

Try removing the battery, and hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Reconnect the battery and try to start it up again.
If this fails, try removing the battery, the CMOS battery (coin sized flat battery) and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This will clear the CMOS, and hopefully allow your motherboard to properly recognize your new GPU -
It's possible your new GPU isn't supported.

Do you get anything if you use an external monitor?

You should upgrade the laptops bios to the gx701 bios. And make sure the mxm card has the "default" bios, not an asus one.

Hi, did you ever get your laptop working? My 8600M GT vga is dead, so would like to update to a better vga card, like 9600m gt or 9650m gt.
Thanks -
or maybe you have your old part?
